Safety Reminder Items
1. A resident reports that while riding her bike in the bike lane on the public streets in our community, she has encountered walkers in the bike lane. It is appreciated that walkers are likely doing this for social distancing; however, this forces the bike rider to go out into the golf cart lane or into the vehicle traffic lane. This creates the chance of an injury to the bicycle rider. BIKE LANES ARE FOR BIKES AND SIDEWALKS ARE FOR WALKERS, besides, believe it or not, THERE IS A LAW AGAINST A PEDESTRIAN IN A BICYCLE LANE (Vehicle code Section 21966.)
2. There have been recent reports of coyotes and foxes seen in several villages in SCLH. Keep small pets inside as much as possible. When out walking, especially on the walking trails, keep them on a short leash. Some of the sightings have been in interior lots, so keep an eye on your pet when out in the back yard. Notify your Mailbox Captain so a message can be sent to your area.
3. There was a report that one of our residents had a heart attack while out walking. The resident did not have any identification on his person. He was not identified till quite some time later. There is no further information about this incident at this time.
ALWAYS CARRY SOME TYPE OF IDENTIFICATION, PLUS AN EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBER WITH YOU WHEN WALKING/JOGGING/BIKING ALONE. The Vial of Life form and the Medical Record form have this information. Carry a copy in your pocket. These forms are available on sclhwatch.org .
If you have a smart phone:
Both iPhones and Androids typically have an In Case of Emergency (ICE) app that allows first responders to access critical medical information on your phone from the lock screen, without knowing the passcode. Information can include prescription allergies, medical conditions, blood type and emergency contacts.
There are also ICE apps available for download, including the ICE Standard ER 911, available for $0.99, which puts an emergency information card on your lock screen in case of an accident.
To have more detailed medical information at hand, the MyChart app for iPhones and Androids provides information on vaccinations, last doctor’s visit and prescriptions, Digital Trends reports.
