TERESA BROOKS TANIN, DIRECTOR

Born and raised in California, although for a very short time lived in windy Casper, Wyoming, graduated from El Camino HS and worked her first job for Hamilton Jewelers in Sacramento while attending college. Graduating from CSUS with a BA in Philosophy/Psychology, she followed up with a Certification from U. C. Davis Environmental HazMat/Safety Administration program, after completing her Certification from the Insurance Institute of America. For over fifteen years she worked as an Insurance Underwriter with USF&G Insurance and CIGNA Insurance Companies.  Following a break to start a family she worked for the next twenty-one years as a Corporate Secretary, Notary Public, and Risk Manager/Safety Director for a local natural gas exploration company. In addition, Teresa was on the Board of Directors and President of the Lincoln Center Office Association in Sacramento for over 12 years, enjoying the interactions of the members, office owners, employees, and the neighboring community.

Retired and moved to Lincoln Hills in January 2016, Teresa quickly volunteered as a Mailbox Captain to meet new people and learn more about the area. Just a short time later, she volunteered as a new member of the Lost Pet Alerts program and is scanning for microchips when needed. Inspired by all of the great work Neighborhood Watch does, volunteering to be a director was a natural next step. While managing several villages, training new Captains in the field, Teresa also writes monthly articles for the Compass Magazine and the Sun Senior News. Her goal in writing her articles is to represent the values and mission statement of Neighborhood Watch, with a twist of fun, in every article she writes.

As a Captain, Coordinator, Director, Lost Pet Alerts Team Member, Compass, and Sun Senior News Writer, and now as a new-volunteer training assistant, Teresa looks forward to doing even more, if fortunate enough to be reelected as Director – “staying involved is staying young” – keeps her going and going and going – so far!
