Attempted-Burglary-Attempted-Scam
1..(Attempted Burglary)…A resident in the 900 block of Yosemite Ln reports that on Monday, 07/12/21 at 11:50 PM she was awakened by loud banging on the front door. The Ring doorbell/camera caught the listed subjects apparently trying to pry open the front door.
Two white male juveniles wearing shorts. No further description given by the resident.
One of the subjects had what appeared to be a pry tool of some type. They were laughing and yelling as they tried to gain entry. When they failed, they then ran to an awaiting car which was described only as a dark sedan. The following day, the resident discovered damage around the door lock area. The Police responded and the incident is under investigation. There are no known suspects at this time.
The subjects entered the resident’s property at such an angle that the Ring Camera did not get a full view of the subjects. (V14 backs to golf course, sports complex & Ingram Pkwy, entrance is Yosemite Ln)
2…(Scam Attempt) In this incident the scammer called the resident and introduced himself as a Border Patrol agent. He said that they had opened a package that contained a large amount of illegal drugs and that the resident’s name was on the package. The resident was to call a given number immediately to explain why her name was on this package containing illegal drugs. The resident was very aware and alert and immediately recognized this to be a scam and she hung up.
The scammer attempted to scare the resident and pressure her into calling this alleged Border Patrol officer. Had she called back, the Scammer would probably try to obtain as much personal information as possible, i.e. name, address, date of birth, social security number, etc. This would all be under the guise that Border Officers must verify your identity and clear your name.
The resident saw the red flags (frighten and pressure to act immediately) did the right thing by just hanging up!!
