October Is National Pedestrian Safety Month
In Lincoln Hills, we’re all pedestrians. Most of us drive these streets and walk them, often on the very same day. Whether you’re heading to one of the Lodges, walking with friends, spending time with grandchildren, or out with your dog, pedestrian safety affects all of us.
A pedestrian is killed every 74 minutes in the United States, and someone is injured every 7 minutes. Nearly 1 in 4 pedestrians killed in traffic crashes is over the age of 60. With daylight saving time ending November 1, evening walks with friends, grandchildren, and pets will be happening in the dark much sooner — and three-quarters of pedestrian deaths happen after dark. Wear bright or reflective clothing, carry a flashlight, and stay alert. And shorten that leash — you don’t want your dog in the road before you are.
Most importantly, look out for each other.
A little extra patience from drivers and a little extra caution from pedestrians helps keep our neighbors, grandchildren, friends, and pets safe.
