SCAMS & SAFETY AWARENESS
Residents are reminded to be alert to several scams and safety concerns that have recently been reported.
1. “Brushing” Scam
One of the latest reported scams is called “Brushing.” You may receive a plain envelope or package addressed to you with a return address you may or may not recognize. Inside may be a note containing a QR code or website link, along with a message such as, “Scan to see who sent this to you.” Do not scan the QR code or visit the website. Doing so could allow scammers to gain access to your computer or mobile device, install malicious software, or connect you with someone attempting to obtain your personal information.

2. DMV Text Message Scam
One of our residents recently received a text message claiming she owed the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) money for unpaid license fees. The text appeared official and included a phone number to call. When the resident called, the person answering identified themselves as the DMV and claimed there was an unpaid fee associated with her vehicle. She was then asked for her credit card number and date of birth. Becoming suspicious, the resident ended the call. She later contacted the DMV directly and confirmed that the message was an attempted SCAM.
Never provide personal, financial, or identification information to anyone whose identity you cannot independently verify.

3. Home Security Reminder
While we live in a relatively safe community, opportunistic thieves occasionally drive, walk, or ride bicycles through neighborhoods looking for easy targets.
Please remember to:
- Keep doors and windows closed and locked when not in use.
- Notify your Neighborhood Watch Captain and trusted neighbors when leaving on vacation.
- Have someone collect flyers, newspapers, or deliveries that accumulate while you are away.
- Use light timers to create the appearance that someone is home.
- Consider leaving a radio playing quietly in another room.
- Install motion-sensor lighting near exterior doors and entry points.
- These simple precautions can help deter criminal activity.
4. Report Suspicious Activity
