SCAM ALERT – PLEASE READ & SHARE
We are aware of a new phone scam targeting community members.
Scammers are calling individuals with “Lincoln Police Department” appearing on the caller ID and falsely claiming the person has active warrants
The caller then demands money, instructing the victim to stay on the phone while driving to the bank to withdraw cash. In some cases, the scammer has even used the name of a real Lincoln Police Department officer to sound legitimate.
Please know:
- The Lincoln Police Department will never call you to inform you that you have a warrant.
- We will NEVER demand money, gift cards, wire transfers, or bank withdrawals.
- Caller ID can be spoofed and does NOT guarantee the call is legitimate.
- If you ever receive a call claiming to be from the Lincoln Police Department and something doesn’t feel right, hang up immediately & contact us directly at 916-645-4040, Option 1.
