Scam Alert – Sheriff’s Office Impersonation

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a phone scam involving individuals impersonating Sheriff’s Office personnel.

Scammers are falsely identifying themselves as deputies, including one claiming to be “Deputy Rivers” from the Courts and Records Division. They tell victims they’ve missed jury duty and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest, demanding immediate payment to avoid jail time.

These calls are fraudulent. They are NOT from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

If you receive a call like this:

  • Do NOT send money
  • Do NOT share personal or financial information
  • Hang up and call our non-emergency line at (530) 886-5375 to verify any suspicious contact
