Lincoln Police Department
Scammer Alert!
Yesterday afternoon (April 15, 2024) Lincoln Police dispatch received a call from an alert citizen regarding a vehicle pulled on the shoulder of the on ramp to Hwy 65 South from Ferrari Ranch Rd. One of the occupants of the vehicle was standing on the shoulder in front of the vehicle and jumped into the path of the caller’s truck. The subject said he was out of gas and needed help by using the caller’s credit card. The subject then produced likely fake jewelry and offered to trade the jewelry for use of the caller’s credit card.
Due to the area in which the vehicle was described both CHP – Auburn and Lincoln PD officers responded.
Upon arrival of units, one of the occupants was on foot on the freeway and actively engaged in conversation with a driver of a different vehicle.
Scams like these have been common over the years and have targeted good Samaritans who pull over to assist what appears to be stranded motorists.
If you see something, say something. Yesterday’s caller did, and it likely saved someone from being scammed.
If an incident is occurring on city streets, contact the Lincoln Police Department non-emergency line at 916-645-4040. If the incident is occurring on the freeway, contact CHP dispatch at 916-861-1300.
