TIPS OF THE DAY
- Your home looks occupied when your porch light is on dusk to dawn. Winter reminds us that it’s dangerous to walk up to a dark house. A neighbor coming to check on you or your mailbox captain coming by to update your emergency information can trip in the dark.
- The fine print on the online Incident Report indicates that you enter only numbers. If you put in a dash, you get an error message saying phone number is unacceptable.
SUSPICIOUS OCCURRENCE
A resident on Silver Hill Ct reported that on Thursday 01/19/24 at 10:45 PM a 13yr old boy came to their door and asked if he could charge his cell phone. The resident did not let the individual into their house but told him to place his phone on a nearby ledge and to wait outside. The resident then took the phone into the house, charged the phone for fifteen minutes then gave it back to the boy. The boy had said that he lived in Folsom and was visiting a friend in SCLH and got lost. The boy was very polite and there was no known crime reported at this time. The boy is described as follows: White, male approximately 13yrs, slight build, black curly hair, blue tee shirt with red and white design on front, black pants with a design on bottom of right leg. The resident had a camera on the front door and has provided a great picture of this boy. This incident may just be a “lost boy” needing help, however these residents were smart and did not allow a stranger into their house, but did provide assistance. (V21 backs to open space, entrance is Hidden Hills Ln off Stoneridge Blvd.)
If living alone, be extra cautious, look outside before opening your door. If you do not recognize the person outside, talk to them through the door or a side window. ONCE YOU OPEN THAT DOOR YOU LOSE THAT BARRIER OF SECURITY.
RECENTLY REPORTED SCAMS
- The resident received a call allegedly from a MEDICARE representativewho advises the resident that MEDICARE is issuing new cards with a “chip” for easy recognition. This alleged representative had some of this resident’s personal information but asked for more, including his present MEDICARE card number. This resident became suspicious and hung up. He then called MEDICARE and they confirmed that they never call and ask for information. The resident was very smart and did not fall for this SCAM.
- In this case the resident received an email allegedly from an old friendwho said she was sick and could not talk on the phone. This email went on to ask our resident to purchase a GIFT CARD for $200 and email the gift card information back to her alleged old friend. Our resident became suspicious and called this old friend. The friend answered and explained that apparently her email had been hacked and taken over by scammers.
Anytime you see a suspicious person or vehicle call the police IMMEDIATELY. When reporting a suspicious vehicle try to get the license plate number and give it to the police dispatcher. (The police and fire emergency number is 911, non-emergency number is 916-645-4040)
