Beyond Neighbors Helping Neighbors—Random Acts Of Kindness!

Teresa Tanin, Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch provides many services that bring out the best in all of us. Our residents, with safety in mind, continually offer help to others. Neighborhood Watch promotes neighbors helping neighbors, but it is the residents themselves that go far beyond mere help to random acts of kindness. These random acts often include a quick phone call to check on a neighbor, picking up a day-old newspaper, returning trashcans, or helping to find a lost pet. These acts are not only kind, they contribute to our safety as well.

To learn more about our safety, Neighborhood Watch will be hosting, together with the Lincoln Hills Community Forum, the Spring Safety Symposium, on March 17, 1:30-3:30 PM, in the Grand Ballroom (OC). We are grateful to Lincoln Police Chief, Matt Alves and his team, for promoting community awareness, and for making this Safety Symposium possible. Residents are encouraged to attend, to ask questions, and receive pro-active tips to curtail break-ins, solicitors, scams, and home accidents. Additional emphasis will focus on fire prevention, evacuation plans, vacation and wellness checks, Lost Pet Alerts Program, and the Vial of Life.

We also welcome Placer Protects and speakers: Laura M. Mitchell, Senior Victims Advocate; Shannon Quigley, Deputy District Attorney; and Karen Bone, Adult Protective Services Social Worker. Learn more about senior-targeted scams, the signs of elder abuse, and how to keep you and your neighbors safe.

Being active in our community is the key to a safer place to live. As a reminder, Neighborhood Watch Mailbox Captains gather confidential emergency contact information from residents who wish to participate. Information is updated once a year. If you have not updated your information by February 15, please visit our website sclhwatch.org “Who Is My Mailbox Captain” or email Neighborhood Watch Executive Director, Linda Minor at lindaminorNW@gmail.com for more information.

Random acts of kindness often go beyond neighbors helping neighbors and provide conditions for a safer place to live. Neighborhood Watch is a proactive organization. Join us in our quest. Stay safe and take a chance on a random act of kindness—we love our neighbors !
