- (Vehicle Burglary) Around 5:00 AM the morning of 10/26/21 some person(s) unknown entered an unlocked van parked in the driveway on the 1100 block of Barnswood Loop. The thieves stole miscellaneous items including the garage door opener. The resident’s Ring doorbell/camera showed one subject described as a White male, 30-40 yrs wearing a hat. No further description. The police were called and the dispatcher told the resident that “there was nothing they could do.” Later that day a person came to the resident’s house and said he was with ADT alarm company. This person said he was there to check the alarm system. The resident never opened the door. She told the person to leave and he did. She then called ADT and found out that they did not send anyone to her residence. The resident did not report this to the police department. - (Scam Attempt) One of our residents attempted to access their Wells Fargo account online and was blocked. The resident then received a message that there had been suspicious activity on the account and was given a number to call. The resident called that number and spoke with a heavily accented person who was “difficult to understand.” The resident was suspicious and hung up. The resident then called Wells Fargo customer service but “they were not interested in trying to address the security concerns.” The resident was later able to access the account and has changed the account password.
Tip: Remember to check for a padlock in the address bar and/or https in the address
- (Scam Attempt) This scam started with a phone call to the resident. The scammer identified himself as a PG&E employee. He told the resident that a PG&E employee had been sent to the resident’s house to shut off the electricity and the only way to stop this was to call a certain number. The resident hung up, called PG&E and was told that they did not send anyone.
Note: From time to time there are opportunists/thieves who drive through our villages looking for easy targets. Always close/lock windows and doors to your house and vehicle and never leave anything of value in plain sight in your vehicle. If you see any person(s) or vehicle that arouses your suspicions, call the police immediately. (Emergency #911; Non-Emergency #916-645-4040)
Always be Aware and Alert and suspicious of any phone calls or emails from a person or business that you do not know. When in doubt, just hang up or delete the message and call a relative, friend or neighbor for advice.
