  1. …(Microsoft Scam) A resident received a call advising her that her “Microsoft Defender” account would be charged $249.00 unless she called a certain phone number. The resident called and spoke to an alleged Microsoft billing agent. That agent was able to talk the resident into giving him her personal information, including her bank account number and credit card information. Then he wanted her to go to the local Target store and purchase either gift cards or money orders totaling $2,500 dollars. At that point the resident became suspicious. She contacted her bank and found that the scammer had attempted to empty her bank account. She was able to work with the bank and at this time, there was no loss.
  2. …(AT&T/ADT Solicitation Scam) There have been several reports in which individuals (one male, one female, both in their mid 20’s) have come soliciting, allegedly for ADT Security. They were wearing AT&T badges and shirts with the AT&T logo. They start out telling the resident that they can save a lot of money on the phone bill if they sign a two-year contract with ADT. “An ADT installer is in the neighborhood and he can install a camera or alarm that day.” The last resident whom they tried to solicit became suspicious and calledAT&T. The AT&T representative advised the resident that they do not have any connection with ADT or any persons soliciting..
  3. ..(AT&T Scam) Another resident reported that a legitimate AT&T repair man came to their house as scheduled. Immediately after the repair man left, a man rang the doorbell and said he was a territory manager from AT&T and wanted to know how the technician did. The husband answered the inside door and left the security door closed. He told the guy that the technician did a good job and closed the door. The “territory manager” was dressed in a flannel shirt and was not in an AT&T vehicle. AT&T advised that there is no territory manager in our area and they are investigating. A police report was made including the doorbell video.

This description is from their doorbell video:
White, late 20’s to early 30’s, blonde mustache, fair color, wearing flannel shirt, a blue beanie that matched his scarf. 4-door silver Ford with Washington plate BNU9056 (could have been an M)

It is important to keep the door closed and talk through a security door or a side window. ONCE YOU OPEN YOUR DOOR, YOU LOSE THAT PHYSICAL BARRIER OF PROTECTION.

EVERYDAY THERE ARE SCAMMERS CALLING AND EMAILING INTO THE UNITED STATES. SOME OF THEIR SCAMS ARE VERY CLEVER AND THE SCAMMERS ARE VERY SMOOTH. IT’S EASY TO BE FOOLED IF YOU ARE NOT AWARE AND ALERT. WHEN YOU RECEIVE AN UNSOLICITED PHONE CALL OR EMAIL THAT AROUSES YOUR SUSPICIONS, DO NOT RESPOND. HANG UP OR DELETE THE EMAIL. WHEN IN DOUBT, CONTACT A RELATIVE, FRIEND OR NEIGHBOR.

WHEN YOU SEE ANY SUSPICIOUS PERSON OR VEHICLE:
Call IMMEDIATELY to give police time to arrive.
If it’s an emergency call 911, non-emergency call 916 645-4040.
TRY TO OBTAIN THE LICENSE PLATE NUMBER ON ANY SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE AND GIVE IT TO THE POLICE DISPATCHER WHEN YOU CALL.

Stay safe and have a happy holiday!!!
