Lincoln Police Department
Throughout the year and especially during the Holiday season, phone and computer scammers go into high gear looking for vulnerable victims, often targeting our senior community. The Lincoln Police Department wants residents to be aware of potential scammers, and know that businesses and financial institutions will NOT call you unsolicited and ask for your personal information. If something seems suspicious about a phone call or email, do not give out any information and hang up on the caller or delete the email. #BeAware #HolidayScamAlertThe Placer County PROTECT Presents online series will introduce the Placer PROTECT team, highlight partnership programs and discuss issues affecting Placer County’s senior citizens.

The episodes will be released on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/PlacerPROTECT Past videos are posted there if you miss one.

Placer County PROTECT offers many services such as an email alert system, a fraud hotline, 916-645-7226, elder abuse prevention support and more. Residents can learn more about the program at https://www.placer.ca.gov/3343/Elder-Abuse-Prevention

Send an email to PROTECT@placer.ca.gov to receive bulletins or report a fraud incident.

Avoid automated phone calls:
If caller ID does not show someone you know or if it shows a government agency you have not contacted, let it go to voicemail. A legitimate caller will leave a message.

Sign up for nomorobo.com which is free for landlines, about $2/month for cell phones. It’s really easy to block a number on a cell phone so not many people would sign up for a cell phone.

When Nomorobo detects a robocall, it is transferred away. The phone will ring once or twice so wait for 3rd ring to answer.

The short list regarding scams:

  1. Phone: Just Say NO & HANG UP
  2. Email: Delete
  3. Online: Look for “https” at the beginning of the address or a padlock next to the address.
