DMV Gives 1-Year Extension to SENIOR DRIVERS With Expiring Licenses
California law requires drivers age 70 and older to visit a DMV field office to renew their license but gives the DMV authority to issue extensions. The DMV has extended expiration dates one year and alerted California law enforcement of the extensions.
If you are 70 years or older and the expiration date of your driver’s license is March 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020, then your license will be extended one-year from the 2020 expiration date. For example, if your license was supposed to expire on April 20, 2020 and you were 70 years old or older, then the new expiration date is April 20, 2021.
DMV will NOT be mailing you a new license because it is not required but you can request a paper form to carry with you.
