PUBLISHERS CLEARING HOUSE Scam is Back
Here is how one attempted scam was presented :
One of our residents was on Facebook and received a post from someone the resident supposedly knows. The scammer stated that she had just received a Publishers Clearing House delivery of $800.00 via UPS and that she had noticed our resident’s name on a list of winners, and was our resident aware of it? If not, our resident was directed to call a certain phone number.
Our resident called that number and was instructed, by a person named David Johnson, allegedly representing Publishers Clearing House, to text certain information back and they would check to see if our resident’s name was on the winners list. Our resident did text back her name and address but no personal information. The scammer replied back that “yes” the resident’s name matched the winners list and that the resident would receive $400,000.00 to be delivered to her door via FedEx–if our resident would send them $1,000.00.
Our resident realized the scam and did not send any money. This is an abbreviated version of this scam. These scammers were very smooth and sounded legitimate, but our resident was Aware and Alert and was not fooled.
