One of our residents was shopping at Raley’s market on Thursday 04/23/20 between 3:15 PM and 4:00 PM. Sometime during that time some person(s) unknown removed the resident’s wallet from her open purse. By the time she realized that the theft had occurred, the thief had made three large purchases at the local Target store.

The resident reported this incident to the Lincoln Police and notified the bank, and credit card companies etc. By making a police report, the credit card companies waived any charges made on the stolen
cards. However, it was very time consuming and will be very upsetting cancelling cards, trying to get a new driver’s license, especially with DMV shut down.

I have observed, many times, shoppers who leave their purse unattended in their cart while shopping. A good practice would be to keep your purse closed, and use the “baby strap” on the shopping cart to secure the purse. To use the baby strap, just run the strap through the handle of your purse and then secure the strap with the buckle. This will slow down any would-be thief, and give you time to alert someone who can help you stop the theft.

ALWAYS BE AWARE AND STAY ALERT. REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS PERSON(S) OR VEHICLES TO THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY!!! (EMERGENCY # 911, NON-EMERGENCY # 916 645-4040) WHEN REPORTING A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE, TRY TO OBTAIN THE LICENSE PLATE NUMBER AND GIVE IT TO THE POLICE DISPATCHER WHEN YOU CALL!!!

At home: Deny opportunities for theft by FULLY closing front garage door (also keeps out snakes which are in search of shade as the weather heats up and skunks) and locking doors and windows when not in use.
