Warning from Placer PROTECT: Providing Resources & Outreach To Elderly Citizens Together

New Shipping Text Scams!

Citizens are receiving text messages from FedEx requesting them to click a link for their shipping preferences. The link then directs the citizen to an Amazon survey with a free reward – all the citizen has to do is provide a credit card to pay for shipping. In the fine print, the scam site is actually signing the citizen up for a 14-day trial program and the citizen will be charged $98.95 every month!

Please be suspicious of any text messages or emails that require you to click a link and then provide personal identifying information like a credit card number! Remember – if it sounds too good to be true – it is probably a scam! If you are concerned about a potential scam – call our hotline at (916) 645-7226.
