Incidents in Lincoln Hills December 4-7, 2019

  1. (Vandalism) On Thursday 12/05/19 between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM some person(s) unknown scratched both sides and the back of a resident’s car. At the time the car was parked on the street on Sutter View Ln.
  2. (Petty Theft from vehicle) A vehicle parked in the 2000 block of Grand Pheasant Ln was entered and a credit card was taken. This occurred overnight and was reported on 12/07/19.  There are no known suspects at this time. There was no sign of forced entry.
  3. (Theft from vehicle) Several unlocked vehicles parked in the driveways on the  1800 block of Hawk Hill Ln were entered. One truck had tools stolen from the unlocked storage box. No suspects observed. (V31C backs to Spring Valley Pkwy & golf course, entrances are Coldwater Ln and Hidden Hollow Ln)
  4. (Porch package theft) On Wednesday 12/04/19 a resident in the  2500 block of Woodacre Ln reports that some unknown person(s) stole a package from his front porch. (V22B backs to Stoneridge Blvd, 12 Bridges Dr & open space, entrance is Crescent Ln off Stoneridge Blvd)
  5. (Hacked email SCAM) In this case the resident received an email “allegedly” from a relative who asked the resident to purchase a “GIFT CARD.”  The incoming email was the relative’s correct email address so the resident didn’t think much about it. He purchased a $200 gift card and as per instructions from the “alleged relative ,” he forwarded the secret numbers on the back of the card.  He didn’t notice that the return email address was different from the original .
email.  He then received another email, again allegedly from this same relative, asking for another $100.  The resident became suspicious and called the relative in Hawaii. This relative didn’t know anything about the “GIFT CARD” request. Apparently this relative’s email contacts had been HACKED by a SCAMMER and this SCAMMER was using the relative’s email address.

Phone and email SCAMS are occurring more and more frequently. In one case a resident lost $3,000 to a PHONE SCAMMER!!!!

If you receive a phone call and you do not know the caller, don’t answer. Let the caller leave a message.  With emails that you don’t recognize, don’t reply. Just delete.

When in doubt contact a relative, friend, neighbor or call me before doing anything with suspicious phone calls, emails or letters.

The short list regarding scams:

Phone: Just Say NO & HANG UP Email:
Delete
Online: Look for “https” at the beginning of the address or a padlock next to the address.
