The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Sacramento Valley for 8 AM Wednesday through 4 PM Thursday. Click here for details.
The City of Lincoln indicates that there are NO planned power shutoffs within the city limits but it is possible there could be areas in the unincorporated areas to the north and west.
SOME THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU CAN DO AHEAD OF TIME to prepare for power shutoff:
- Go here to enter your address to find out if your house will be without power.
- Consider parking your vehicle(s) outside in your driveway.̈
- Practice operating your garage door manually. Written instructions from a resident in V41:
If you are concerned about exiting your garage during a power option, then yes parking in your driveway is a solution. If you do so, please secure and lock all windows and doors to your vehicle and verify that there are no valuables left inside.
If you are inside your garage during a power outage you can exit the garage by first pulling down on the manual Release Handle attached to the cord, which is attached to the sliding track assembly.
I suggest you wear gloves as the metal garage door might have a sharp edge or two.
Then grab the edge of a lower section of the door for best leverage (or the two metal handles at the center) of the sliding door and lift up. Take care in lifting the door, as it could be heavy for you.
Also, a long while back we had a rash of individuals breaking into garages. Their methods were to use a coat hanger through the top of the closed garage door to pull the release handle. Then it was recommended that this could be prevented by putting a plastic zip tie through the handle so it could not be pulled down without first cutting the zip tie. Obviously if you have zip tied your emergency handle, then this needs to be removed by you before pulling the Release Handle.
- A resident in V24 made a YouTube video with great detail. How to manually open garage door.
- If you have an automatic ice maker, empty it and turn it off. This will prevent the melted ice becoming a big block of ice.
- Charge your cell phone and any other appliances that can operate with a battery.
Last time medical devices could be charged at the 12 Bridges Library or the Lincoln Community Center. - Disconnect appliances to avoid damage from a power surge.
- Checklist from PG&E.
