1. It has been reported that a subject recently passed a counterfeit one-hundred-dollar bill ($100.00) at a Garage sale in Roseville. The only suspect description available, at this time, is a “Male with a pony tail hair style”. This subject/suspect became very aggressive and angry when the Roseville resident hesitated in accepting the $100-dollar bill. This intimidated the resident into accepting the bill, which turned out to be counterfeit.
Always be AWARE AND ALERT and if confronted with a similar circumstance, call 911 and have the police respond ASAP. Marking pens which will detect counterfeit bills are available online.
2. One of our residents received a “TEXT” message, allegedly from “Wells Fargo Bank”, in which the message said that the resident’s account had been locked out and to call the bank. The resident called the number listed and gave the “alleged bank employee” personal information to clear the lock-out. The resident then became suspicious and called the bank’s 800 number. The “Scammer” had already tried to get into the resident’s account. Fortunately, the resident’s daughter had transferred all the money from that account to another account, just days before this incident. There was NO LOSS this time.

3. Another resident received an email in which the Scammer threatened the resident. The Scammer demanded money or he/she would release “Pornographic pictures” of the resident. This alert resident did not respond but contacted Neighborhood Watch.
4. A variation of the Social Security scam is circulating now. The scam email states that your Social Security account has been suspended for suspicious activity and to immediately call to reinstate it.
