Scam: One Drive Scam

An alert resident contacted the Alerts Team to ask about receiving an email from a relative stating that there is a document for them on One Drive. She was suspicious but the relative was recently widowed so it could be authentic. The resident was on vacation and unable to reach her relative by phone.

Our webmaster, Larry Whitaker, informed us that One Drive is cloud service for storing documents. It could be a legitimate link but could also be a virus to infect a computer with malware. We advised the resident and she decided to wait until returning home.

When the resident returned, she found out that her relative’s computer had been hacked.
